1) Temporary Demand Reductions

Building owners and operators can earn revenue for temporary reductions in energy demand to support the electric grid or other buildings in need of extra energy capacity. Users leverage their flexible energy capacity without disrupting operations. COI Energy's analytics help businesses maximize flexibility and therefore revenue. 2) Semi-Permanent Demand Reductions

Load Shifting
Gain insight into your facility’s energy patterns to increase flexibility and shift load to off-peak hours, when utilities charge less for electric power. Because the grid is less constrained during off-peak hours, your energy use will emit fewer greenhouse gases and cost less than during peak times. Take full advantage of Time-of-Day (TOD) rates to save money and protect the grid.
Peak Shaving
Maintain control of your energy performance, waste, and costs. Our demand threshold feature notifies you when your facility has reached a specified demand level (kW) and enables you to prevent avoidable spikes. You minimize demand charges while maintaining the comfort level of your operation.
Why?
Customers are charged by their utility for both consumption (kWh) and demand (kW). Consumption measures the amount of energy you use over time, while demand refers to the amount of energy used at a single point in time. For a utility, this represents the amount of energy that must be generated to meet demand. When there is higher demand, energy becomes more costly and customers incur increased demand charges. Demand charges are calculated based on 15-minute intervals; if your facility hits a demand spike for 15 minutes, your demand charges will reflect this spike for the entire bill period. Load shifting and peak shaving prevent you from hitting unnecessary demand spikes, thereby minimizing demand charges and reducing your electric bills.
